COUNCIL MEMBERS

The members of the Pastoral Council are:

John Deitchman, Chair -- John has been an OLPH parishioner since 2004.  He and his wife Linda have three children and five grandchildren.  John has been involved with OLPH as a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Religious Education teacher, as well as through Adult Bible Study and the morning prayer group. He is currently in formation as a candidate for the diaconate. 


Eduardo Agnese
--
Eduardo has been an OLPH parishioner since 1987 He and his wife Alicia have five children.  He is a Lector and  Extraordinary Minister and is involved in Pre-Cana and Renew.  He is currently one of two representatives from OLPH before the Diocese of Metuchen on the Hispanic Apostolate.  Eduardo regularly attend Saturday Mass at 7:30pm in Spanish.
 

Philip Calinda -- Philip has been an OLPH parishioner for approximately 12 years.  He lives in Chester with his wife Rhonda and  two sons; Philip, who graduated from School of St. Elizabeth in 2006, and Joseph, who graduated in June 2008.  As a family, they have enjoyed being involved in both parish and school activities over the years, including H.S.A, the Passion Play, Boy Scouts, Spirit of Christmas, track and basketball.  Philip is a member of The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Central New Jersey Builders Association (CBA). He currently holds a seat on the Commercial Council of the CBA. He earned two degrees from the University of Housing of Washington D.C.; Certified Graduate Builder and Certified Graduate Remodeler. He is presently working toward his Master Builder Degree. He is a partner of Millennium Custom Homes where he has worked for 30 years.  He is a member of the Seton Hall Prep Fathers Club where he is involved with the football concessions, play concessions, and the Silent Auction Night.


Tom Carton
--
Tom is a OLPH lifelong parishioner.  He and his wife Peg have three grown children.  Over the past thirty years, Tom has participated in various civic organization that have included leadership roles.  He is presently serving as a trustee of The Flame of Charity Foundation for the Diocese of Metuchen and Building committee advisor for The Center for Great Expectations.


Alana Davis
--
Alana and her family have lived in Bernardsville for almost twenty years. During that time she has been employed by the parish in a variety of positions; bulletin input, bookkeeping, social minister and her present position as OLPH Parish/Holy Cross Cemetery secretary. Her volunteer activities in the parish have also included Religious Education Teacher, RCIA Team Member, Choir Member and while her children attended St. Elizabeth School, H.S.A. member.
 

Gale Fitzgerald -- Gale has been an OLPH parishioner since 2002. She and her husband, Michael have a son, William.  Her involvement in OLPH includes being a Lector,  a Religious Education teacher, a facilitator of Adult Bible Study, and voluntering with Ozanam and Social Ministry. Gale has a 35-year career in information technology and business. She currently has her own consulting company and serves on the boards of three publicly-held companies: Diebold, Health Net and Cross Country Health Care.


Jim Hammerschlag
--
Jim has been a resident of Bernardsville since 1997 and is formerly a longtime resident of Garden City, New York.  He graduated from Providence College in Rhode Island and St. John’s University in New York.  He is employed at Citigroup in New York.  He is a member of the Boards of  Directors of the Brooklyn Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and the St. Giles Foundation  and is a New Jersey area Co-Hospitaler for the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.  Jim is very happily married to his wonderful wife, Elizateth (Beth) and they  have one daughter, Grace, who attends the parish school, St. Elizabeth.


Gretchen Helpinstill
--
Gretchen completed a year of RCIA and became a Catholic at OLPH in 2005. She and her husband Jim have three children and four grandchildren.  She is a native Texan who has lived in Bernardsville for 28 years.   At OLPH, she has taught a Religious Education class and is a Eucharistic Minister.  Over the years, she has been a homemaker, as well as an elementary and nursery school teacher.  As her children were growing up, she has worked with various youth groups and has been a Friendly Visitor with Visiting Nurses in this area for the past four years.


Maria Elba Jara -- Maria
have been an OLPH parishioner for nineteen years. Her children attend the School of Saint Elizabeth and she enjoy being involved with the school community. She is also part of the Parish Hispanic Community and has served on the Hispanic Commission in previous years. From 2000 to 2002, she took on the role of  President of the Hispanic Commission. It was a wonderful experienced that taught her the important aspects of being a leader. In addition to her role on the Parish Council, she is the Spirituality Committee Coordinator and a Eucharistic Minister. She feels that she and her family are blessed to  be part of the OLPH community and share God's grace with others.


Germaine McGrath
--
Germaine has been a member of OLPH for nearly all of her life.  She attended all local schools, including Miss McGuiness's, St. Elizabeth's and Bernards High.  She then went on to the college of St. Elizabeth and NYU.  She currently lives with her two younger sisters, and they have a brother outside of Chicago, as well as a niece and two nephews. Germaine loves animals, music, dance, theater and volunteers at Paper Mill Playhouse and Bernardsville Library, and is a member of Trilogy in Basking Ridge.  Germaine was also on the Parish Council in the early 1970's.  She has worked on various soup suppers and pancake breakfasts. She is a lector and a member of Emmaus, Small Church Community, and the Saturday Morning Small Church group.  She was on the editorial board for the OLPH centennial book and wrote parts of the Bernards High School centennial book. 


Debbie Vaughn
--
Debbie was raised in Bernardsville and attended St. Elizabeth School. She and her husband Kenny have four children.  Debbie is a Eucharistic Minister and runs the Coffee After Mass for the 10:45am Mass.


Anthony Volpe
--
Anthony Volpe has been a member of OLPH since 2005. He serves as a Eucharistic Minister and is proud to be part of the Parish Pastoral Council.  He has been married to his wife Deirdre since 2006, and they make their home in Bernardsville along with their dog Stella.  Anthony is Vice President of an engineering firm and specializes in architectural engineering and project management.


Michael Zieger
-- Michael a
ttended the 1998-1999 RCIA Program, was baptized at OLPH in 1999 and has been a member ever since.  Michael resides in Basking Ridge and has a son and daughter.  He assists with the Social Ministry, doing such activities as delivering Back-Packs.  Michael is a business owner of A Global Food Sourcing company in Bedminster.
